I came back to ask a technical question about the steel. How does the wrought iron effect the hardness and temper of the steel? Just wondering and hope you don't mind that I asked.

The wrought iron is decorative in this case. There is some diffusion of carbon form the high carbon 1095 to the low carbon wrought iron. The 1095 core is about an 1/8” thick. I cannot tell the difference in the edge of a solid 1095 blade and a wrought iron sandwiched 1095 blade. There is a long history of forge welding high carbon steel to wrought iron. The wrought iron spine is not as hard as a 1095 would be, but I do not really think this is an issue. I have several very old frame backs with brass spines. When I harden and temper the blade I treat it as a 1095 blade and do not take the iron into consideration.
From the usability and performance stand points In this case, the the wrought iron is decorative.

That is an incredibly unique piece. I like the aesthetic, Charlie. Congratulations!

Thanks so much for the answer Charlie. I've been reading a bunch lately refreshing my memory on the chemistry of iron and steel and other alloys. I have NO intention of ever making a razor, but I have become interested in the chemistry and forgot most of it from college.
