Default 7/8 Dutch Rattler in Dovo white scales

This poor razor was in just horrible shape when I got it. Rust, pits, patina, you name it, this guy had it. The original scales were suffering cell rot horribly and had impacted the blade.

4 days of hand sanding could not remove all the spots and pits. 2 days on the buffers could not bring her all the way back. She is back to the point of being lovely again, and fully functional, not to mention a downright great shaver.

I wish I could have done more for her.

Originally the blade read: Dutch Rattler ALONE The tang reads: (something) Dorman & Co. and the other side has a feather with 'Trade Mark' under it.

Not much of that is left now, sadly.

It was an EBay buy, and wasn't cheap, it wasn't worth what it cost, but now it is. I can't tell you how many hours of labor total it took to get it back this far.

I've ordered a new set of scales for her, which I will pin on with some nice brass rod and washers, till then these will hold her nicely.

It got the full honing routine, and despite a slight twist to the blade, was fairly easy to hone to a great edge. The test shave was pure enjoyment after all the labor it took to get her to this point.

I have'nt seen many Dutch Rattler's around so this one feels like it has found a home now.

    Enjoy folks!!!
