Union Cutlery -Spike, "Advanced Cleaning" (not full restore :P)

Well I have really enjoyed cleaning and restoring (nothing museum quality :P) these old razors, relaxing and great little hobby!

Here is a Union Cutlery - Spike , 9/16 near wedge

I have seen a few of these here on the forums and I would like you gentlemen to provide some opinions on the hone ware (severity?) as I was planning on selling this and returning the old blade to "Active duty". I am just a beginner so I will not be attempting to (no do I own the equip) hone the blade.

The lettering was partially filled with what looked like moldy-green paint when I received it, were they originally black??? I also build 1/24 scale models so I have some experience/tricks with painting small detail areas. I might take a shot at getting them back to original form.

I think I was watching that on the bay a while ago

It's hard to tell from the pics, but the hone wear looks heavier in the centre of the blade.
It doesn't look too sever, there's lots of life left in that blade from what I can tell.

Of course, that's all just speculation until someone hones and shaves with it

Looks really nice to me! I have one of those with the translucent green scales and gold lettering. It's a great razor! And I love mine. I think you did a really nice job on that.

P.S. 1/48 is where it's at man!

Looking good. As far as the lettering in the scales go, I've seen both green and red, so that green you removed was possibly original paint.

Thanks for all the comments guys! The green looked terrible (condition not color) and was very sparse, I have seen maddafinga's green with gold here, maybe I will do that technique. I would like to find I picture of this razor with the original green or red to get a better idea of what it looked like though.

Nice! Those spikes shave great! As to color, The hot stamps were originally filled with a dark blue, I believe!

Here is my first attempt at recoloring the logo, don't know how I feel about it. Its not a "stamp" in a traditional sense as much as its almost carved lettering.
