Default 8/8s W2 One Piece Razor

This blade is made from W2 tool steel - it is an 8/8s. The guard/sheath/scales (I am not sure what to call it) is made from black linen micarta and some brown phenolic. This blade feels good in the hand and is nimble without the scales.

I have had this idea in my head for a while, I have been wanting to try it out. There is a magnet in the guard that holds the blade in. I have to center the blade as I close the razor, it can hit the sides if I am not careful.

Not sure what to say about the guard/scale thing. I know! When you think about it, scales are to sheath the blade when not in use and provide balance when shaving. This blade is really a scaleless blade as it obviously has the tang/tail for balance. So why not? The blade is beautifully executed and the ..lets call it a sheath.. is most attractive for display and should protect the edge properly. The magnet seems a good idea as well. It has it all! Pretty Cool!

Clever, pretty cool. I was trying to think of how to build a removable set of scales, sheath or whatever you would like to call it, then here it is. Good idea!

Great Idea Charlie it is actually pretty logical when you think it through... I like the word Scabbard

    BTW just a thought

Western Kamisori or Symetrical Kamisori as a name, both work for that type grind on that type of razor IMHO

Man, your brain just never stops working does it.
Very cool concept and a beautiful blade to go with it.

I appreciate the execution, and would love to shave with that blade, but it's the outside the box thinking that is really exciting. I like my R. Williams "Purist" but find the wood stand sometimes cumbersome; does the magnet grip the blade firmly when "closed?" Is it a small rare earth magnet embedded in one side of the "scales?" Really great idea Charlie. Thanks for sharing...

Now that is some original thinking! I like the clay work also.

There is a 5/16 rare earth magnet in the spacer between the scales scales. The magnet pulls on the thumb notch area of the blade. It holds it firm but not to firm, it is hard to quantify.

There are actually two magnets in the spacer I buried the first one in the phenolic spacer it did not hold firmly enough, so I added the second magnet that is flush with the surface it holds good now.
