Thread: Thistle Cut. Co. Custom restore Tiger G-10

Had way too much fun today in the shop with Speedster/aka/Mark coming up and hanging out, while we changed a boring old Thistle into this...










Make: Thistle Cutlery Co.
Origin: NY USA
Steel: Carbon
Size: 11/16
Scales: Orange and Black G-10
Wedge: Black Acrylic
Pins: Brass
Washers: Brass in and out

Hones: Naniwa SS 1-3-5-8-10-12

Mark decided he really liked the full rounded profile and the effect it had on the colors in the G-10, so we went with it, polished it out to 8k with the 3M paper and then buffed out past that for a glass like finish..
The Blade was polished to a nice Satin Glow, unfortunately I didn't get time to test shave it, so I have to wait until Mark chimes in with those results

I was very happy with the feel of the razor in the hand though, with the rounded profile and after I sanded the inside edges of the scales it just flips so sweetly while stropping....

The Thistle is home safely after a fun 2-hour drive back from Sandpoint. I'm way overdue for a shave (3 days?), Glen, so that's up NOW.

Okay, guys, so obviously I wasn't looking at the blade while writing my last post. Damn, not only do those scales just rock, but the blade is fully restored with a velvet, satiny glow. I will post the before pictures from my camera phone if I can find them.



I'm one happy camper, and she shaves like a dream. I momentarily forget the whereabouts of the square point and put a quarter-inch (very shallow) nick on my right cheek. Funny how the rest of my shave went nick-free. Sometimes reminders are a good thing. I'm still learning much respect for square point razors, especially ones that are not sort of a rounded square like my Fili.

Thanks again, Glen, for inviting me up to watch while you work your restoration magic. I could not be happier with how this restore turned out. And, a DFS to boot!

Hey Mark - what's the "history" behind that blade? How did you come to own it, and decide that it was worth restoring?

It all leads to the question as to what's cooler - a custom razor, or a blade you've saved and put a bit of love into. I mean that thing looks awesome.
