First real attempt.
Found this nice Mappin & Webb locally.
It wasn't in bad shape, I was going to clean it up and use it but I broke the original scales during removal.
So that made a perfect opportunity to try my hand at a custom job.
Scales are purpleheart that I intentionally didn't 'bake' so that the purple remained subtle.
Wedge is made of zebra wood.
Brass pins, pivot pin is stacked stainless and brass. Wedge pins are just brass with stainless.
My only problem is that I can NOT get the blade to centre in the scales. I tried minor adjustments by tapping the opposite side of the pivot pin, but no luck. Any suggestions would be great!
Oh yeah, and let me know what you think.
Here are the before:
And After!:

Thanked: 1072Great job on the blade and the scales.
With the blade centering, this link has some good ideas Blade Centering - Straight Razor Place Wiki Unfortunately most of them involve un-pinning the razor.
Another one that I dont think is mentioned is pinning the wedge end first but not really tightening it up until the very end.
This allows you to flex the scales a tiny bit if you need to.
You can also try typing "blade centering" into the search box, Glen has posted a lot of comments on the subject."I aint like that no more...my wife, she cured me of drinking and wickedness"

Nice razor! Centering blades is tricky. Probably another reason why I don't make scales! I am certain you will get it straight!
Is that Latin or what on the blade? Nice!

Yes it is Latin.
It means 'Second to None"
Very cool!
Honing it this weekend, test shave Monday.. I have high expectations for this one.

Ironsidegnr,
How did she end up shaving? Did you get the blade more centred? Very nice scales and a great job on the blade, those alternately stacked pins/washers look great.

Thanks, I really like the look!
I haven't done anything with it, been too busy!!
I'm getting a new bench belt sander tomorrow, so I'm going to be doing some work with the wedge to get the blade centred.
I've been working on the blade, trying to hone it. It's slightly warped and it'd been giving me some grief.
I'm hitting it tonight with a Naniwa 400 to do some geometry correction/bevel corrections after I fix up a 7/8 wedge I'm working on.
Hopefully that sorts it out! Once I get everything finished I'll post pics again.
This better shave nice! There's a pile of work done to it already, and a whole lot left to go!
