Torrey in Tobacco
Nice customs and restos from all here!
As some of you have seen, I like to add "different" things to my rotation. I enjoy restoring different materials and creating unique razors. I suppose I am like this in all my personal endeavours! While I do not make scales or blades, I like to make use of what I have on hand. I have been having fun of late fixing up old celluloid, giving them a paint job, and putting nice blades with them. Celluloid has problems, to be certain, but some are still sturdy and straight a hundred years later. I think some makers got the formula down better than others. I have done an ear of corn and a stork with fish and love to pick them up and shave with them. Now this awesome old 7/8 Torrey blade is sweet, but the bakelite scales it came to Me with were not original and were too long. Since it seems that most any scale was used by Torrey, I decided this tobacco sheaf set would be cool. A good scrubbing with Comet and a toothbrush to deep clean the recesses of the pattern and a paint and rub technique using a brush-tip marker from the art supply store made the leaves really stand out. Tough part was doing the inside of the scales as best I could what with the glued-together wedge end! I just lightly buffed the blade and pinned with bronze rod and Babur's brass collars really tight using brass spacers inside. I like how it turned out. "One of a kind"!
Big shave with it coming Sunday! Thanks for looking!
Tom

Thanked: 498I love, love, love what you did Tom. You always see those bright yellow scales there almost hard to look at being so bright. But with your muted shades its easy on the eyes. plus you drop in a Torrey to knock it out of the park.
Killer dude as always

Thats a great set of scales, and some real tidy work. You may want to try your luck with the scale collectors on ebay lol.
