Thanked: 24713/18 Shapleigh, barbers notch, 3/4 hollow...rescued from certain death.
I paid 23 dollars for this poor guy. I know he wasn't worth it, but I just had to. The scales were completely destroyed with bugs, and rot. The blade itself was highly suspect. I fully expected to get it home and not be able to get a decent edge on it. But it had a neat Shapleigh imprint on the blade, and I'd never seen such a fancy Shapleigh before. Anyhow, the fancy imprint is fairly well gone, and someday I'll still have to take it apart and give it a total regrind. But I'll save that for another day. I believe the wood I used is Ebony. BUT, it just came in a big grab bag, and I usually only work with White Pine 2x4's. I used three layers of poly on them, and I suppose time will tell if that was a good idea. Anyhow..I hope you all appreciate this poor fellah. This razor had a rough 20th century I believe..

If it gives a good shave, that is all that matters!!
