Thanked: 10A pair of Spikes refreshed
Well I had intentions of pulling the scales on this set of Spike raozrs, but upon closer inspection there was no warp, no chips or any real reason to. One had some bad rust on the tail which a brass wire wheel and some self-made soft scrapers took care of. I also just touched the tail to 400# paper on the 9" disc grinder to clean it up a bit. Then off to the buffer. Took the celluloid scales back to 2500# and then finished with white rouge and Novus #2 by hand. Original scales are pinstriped white and ivory. The difference between the two is pretty glaring, size, shaping, details, it all shows which one was made on a Friday and the other in the middle of the week.
I really just love the logo on these razors! Also being a 1/4 hollow adds a nice heft to them for the 5/8 size
I am contemplating filling the lettering on the scale of one of the razors to differentiate between the two. I also plan on making a case to hold them together.

As you can see, we have something in common!!
Love those spikes..
Ask me about how to fill the scale etchings to get them back to factory if your interested.
Good luck mate....
M-- Any day I get out of bed, and the first thing out of my mouth is not a groan, that's going to be a good day --

Thanked: 10Thanx, these are quickly becoming my favorites! I did see your 7 day set of spikes. This is one razor I always keep an eye out for during my hunting.
I plan to fill the pressing the same way as scrimshaw. Same process, just bigger lines.
Thanx to everyone for the kind words!

I have had good luck with enamel "art" ball pens of the proper color. They fill the lines well and will sand off when dry. Waterproof too! Craft shops have them. I clean the original lines with a fine grade of toothpaste and a 1" paintbrush with the bristles cut down to ½ - ¾. Practice first with the ball pen on scrap scales!
For blades, I use a "china marking pencil" Grease pencil to fill a warm to the touch blade and then scrub off the surface with a piece of shirt cardboard when it cools. The smoother the better for getting off all the excess. Using quite a few bits of the board, I can get close to a factory filling without digging the wax out of the etch or stamp..
Have fun!
