Default 13/16 Western kamisori with orange wrap

I tried my hand at a western grind kamisori recently, here is the outcome

Steel is O1 at 60-61HRC, grind is quater hollow, and the wrapping is orange waxed cord, with some epoxi glue underneath for water protection.

I will be making some more in the future, this was was really fun to make. She shaves well, and handles very nicely with a cutting edge length of 57mm's.

Let me know how you like it, I welcome any positive or negative comments!

Is it hollow on both sides?

Looks like a nice clean piece.

Look really nice. I like everything about them. What size wheel did you use for the hollow grind?
It looks almost exactly what my project for next week is. The blanks are rough cut, and ready to be forged and ground.

This one was done on a 6" wheel, and I feel this is about the best size for this width. I haven't ground too many blades yet, but I liked the 8" best for 8/8 razors, and 6" for 6-7/8 razors.

Thanks for the reply. I have 8, 4 and 2 inch wheels - no 6, so mine will either be 8/8s or 1/4 hollow.

I like the idea of the western grind, that's what puts me off kamisori, only being able to use one hand, plus i am a leftie. Very nice razor.

Very well done. Great lines to the whole thing and the orange wrap gives it that bit of pop.

What he said. It's an absolutely gorgeous rendition, made all the more so by virtue of being shave-ready on both sides.

For my money, I like 6/8 in quarter-grind; but I'd opt for a French (oblique) point, rather than a spike.

Beautifully done. For what it is worth, i have found that angling the handle up slightly improves the handling even more. i think you will find most of the Japanese Kamisori have the angled handle. Just an idea - nothing negative at all.
