Chatellerault 6/8 faux frameback overhaul
Bought a lot of 3 French razors, inc one I have restored in another rescent thread, this one is a chatellerault 6/8 that had the toe totally honed out, it looked a bit of a mess so I decided to try some things I have never done before on this razor, to regrind the point and to use acrylic sheet to rescale it. I sanded the blade itself as much as I could without taking too much meat out of it as it is very thin to begin with and was pitted pretty bad, I ground and shaped the point until I was happy with the shape, I wanted it to look a little 'mean' and intimidating, as opposed to the usual sleek lines these sort of French blades had, the blade itself has obviously ended up shorter than it was but I think I've just about got away with it. I wanted to make this razor look great again and give it a new lease of life basically. I used smoked grey acrylic sheet for the scales, which was really good to work with, I've never used it before and was impressed. They are semi clear and look really cool, I tried to capture this in the pics but they didn't turn out well sorry. I pinned it with nickel silver pins and washers. The pins arnt central in the scales I know but it ended up being around 3 in the morning and when I start I can't stop! I didnt use a wedge, with the blade being so thin i thought it would look better without with them being transluscent so i sanded and polished them into a chamfer to acheive the correct angle of the scales. The blade drops in lovely and snug. Hope you like it as much as I do!!

Thanked: 247I think they look great! And I'm not sure, but I think your wedgeless scales have been done in a totally unique way. Meaning I don't think I've seen it done before like that. Bonus!

I love the profile on the blade. Your scales and blade compliment each other with a clean formal look. Good job.
