Thanked: 44New Addition to the Big Boy Team
Here is my latest addition to "the big boys." A 9/8 Wostenholm partial wedge, in just about the nicest spalted maple you'll ever see, lined in ebony, with an ivory wedge. One of my new favorites

Are big blades good shavers? Do they have good steel?

Some are good, some are great, and some are less so. Totally depends on who made them, how well they are honed, etc.
My top three shavers are all at the bigger end of the spectrum, but they were all made by mid-19th century Sheffield masters. The one posted here is a Wostenholm - it should be a fantastic shaver. Not just because it is big and wedge-y, but because it was made by a great razor maker.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Man, fantastic work ,and a total hoss
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.
