    Default Gruesome Threesome

These pieces came in obviously in need of help. Another restorer passed the client on to me. I guess simply because he knew better, or knew I'm a glutton for punishment.

At first I had no idea what these were as the amount of rust covered the makers marks. Uncovering the Art of Shaving razor surprised me as I had no idea what brand they handled.

For the most part they cleaned up OK. The AOS piece was the worst of the bunch simply because of the thinness of the blade there was only so much I could do for it. The blade was paper thin and any more work on it would make it Swiss Cheese,, or tracing paper.

I convinced him of allowing me to restore the scales on the W&B but the other scales were going to clean up just fine. Here is what I had to start with.

Turns out the AOS piece is a TI. That surprised me. It turns out it was , as I said, the worst of the bunch. The only recourse I had was to finish it in a brushed finish.
The W&B cleaned up reasonably well considering its condition. I also redid the scales in a CA finish. Putting the old scales back on it in the condition they were in just didn't seem right.
The last turned out to be a Bismark. After unpinning and cleaning up the blade and scales I only had to duplicate the domed washers that were on it.

Oh man that was a ton of rust. Aren't the Art of Shaving straights pretty new? I know that Dovo makes them now, but that was a crap ton of rust considering the scales looked pretty new.

    Yes it is.
As I understand it the client was starting into straight shaving. He got distracted with other things and in the mean time his bathroom had a flood. These were set aside and basically ignored for quite some time. Now he has freed up some time and is interested in getting back into shaving. When he dragged these out of storage this is what he found. That's when I came into the picture.

    Thanks aespo,
Now these aren't pristine by any stretch of the imagination, but they certainly are useable now. That was the intended goal of this project and the client is very happy with them. Regardless how they may look , which I don't think is all that bad considering their humble start, they can , and do pop hairs with the best of them.
I was happy to get another back on the "Straight and Narrow" so to speak.

Very nice result considering where you started. Hope the 2nd session of trying a straight is the one which gets your client hooked.
