swaging is what he did on the sides of the spine, where its beveled and terminated at the tang. the grob is where the point and the spine meet, he cut it off at an angle. "swaging the grob" though? I think hes talking about beveling it? to me a swage terminates, a bevel continues through so im not seeing the swaged grob. I might just be wrong again but that's my take.

That's all correct. I was being obtuse!
Here's what I meant (though the example isn't the best, it's the only one I could find -- this razor needs cleaning, and some of the crud on it obscures what I'm talking about).
These two pictures are the same razor:
The grob is the design flourish at the point (toe) end of the spine. If you squint into a headwind you can see that it's been ground flat at the top, the front and both sides to create three facets where Ali's (incredible) razor has just one.
Hilariously, having written that a long time ago, I now disagree with myself!
(I don't think Ali's razor should have a that style grob anymore)Last edited by Voidmonster; 06-07-2014 at 09:45 PM.

I couldn't quite picture what you might have meant, but these pics make it very clear! I like ali's design very much, it keeps the flow from spine to tip congruous but I see that the example you show could look mighty fine as well if he went that route. only difference id suggest if doing that would be to have the bevel on the spine ride a bit higher so the transition from spine to tip would look more like the example you show. itd look too busy on the tip if it was left like this and then faceted I think.

Voidmonster,
I'm sorry, but after all this grob nonsense, then making us look at those ginormous pics, (of a beautiful razor in waiting) you now are obliged to restore the above shabby grob and allow us to admire it!"Call me Ishmael"
