Your son will charish the brush forever, great gift for sure.Interesting about the change in ebony, perhaps it is being cut and exported to soon.
Is now sort of a black market item and will shortly be banned for sale in the U.S.
The ebony I have is at least 40 yrs old,Bought two large planks from a piano resto place In San Francisco in the 70s.

That's a great looking brush. The pictures almost look photoshopped the way they sparkle, incredible!
I have to ask, how long does it take to turn a brush like that? I realize the finish can take days but, my lathe experience from high school has entirely escaped my memory.

Thank you. I would actually consider these terrible pics. I actually hope that my wife doesn't see them as she would be embarrassed of my skills. You should see what she can do!

Normally the turning process itself can be done in about 15 minutes, but I will usually spend a number of hours debating shape, making sure my contours are just right, and measuring to make sure that they follow the golden rule as close as I can; then I always end up throwing all of that out the window and making it fit what I want. When I follow my process I will actually turn for around 2-3 hours (ridiculous, I know). The finish itself takes me around 30-60 minutes to apply and around 24 hours for a handlable cure. If you want to learn that, you have to find your way to my shop.

Beautiful work. I do like the fine detail on the end, though, as you said, detail gets lost sometimes in dark wood. I hope the intended user finds it as beautiful as I do. If not, you can always send it to me.

Really a fine looking brush in every way. I love working with Blackwood. The brushes I've made from it just get polished and Renwaxed, no other finish required (in my opinion). My son got one for Christmas last year that I turned. I want to try a black on black with a black badger knot. My go to right now is a black on ivory - home brew polyester.

Great looking brush! I really like the way in that one picture where all the structure in the wood comes out. I can imagine it looks darker without the flash. :-) Man I wish I had skills like these...

I like the way you turned the wood. It came out very nice. I like the bottom of the piece.

    It’s here!

Absolutely stunning Gerrit!! Thank You! Your work is outstanding! I’d recommend you, your turning, and finishing skills to anyone who would listen!

I love the way it feels in my hand! The curvatures are perfect! While my son has slightly larger hands than I do I’m sure that he’ll feel the same!

Your description of how dark it is is SPOT ON! It’s so black but with some good lighting the grain is beautiful! With the epoxy finish I’m sure that the handle will far outlast the brush!

I can’t thank you enough for making my son’s Special Christmas Present so Perfect!

You could have skills like these. I believe that anyone can do it if I can.

I am so very happy that you like it. This is the most important aspect of the process in my opinion.
