Default 11/16 Union Cutlery Co. Spike

After reading some threads praising Spikes I have been looking for one. I finally got one, but had what turned out to be "devil's spit" down the center of the whole blade. That one is still waiting for something to be done to it. Then I came across this one that looked alot better. It had nearly no hone wear and had tiny rust spots on the blade that I hoped would come off easily, but ended up leaving little dots on the blade. I don't mind them though. I suppose if I ever buy a buffer they would come off easy since this razor is near wedge and they are just on the surface. The wedge somehow shifted and would hit the point and I couldn't shift it back so I had to take it apart. I went with stacked washers and put a black oxide washer on the bottom near the wedge to contrast with the scales and go with the lettering. I see where the praise comes from cause it took a fantastic edge and was a pleasure to shave with. The only bad thing is I have been trying to thin out how many razors I have so I can hold off on eventually getting a 366 day set and now I have another razor that I don't want to let go. I have been trying to part with razors that I honed with tape before I get rid of others, but even those I am finding it hard to get rid of. Slowly I am getting rid of some after along time on deciding what ones I can part with. I forgot to take before pictures, but this is how it turned out.

Fanciest collars ever on a Spike! Looks great!
Part with razors honed with tape? Why?

    I rest my case.

I don't like the idea of having to put tape on my razors whenever they need to be touched up. Especially if I would have to touch up a razor mid shave. I have only had to touch up in between shaves so far, but you never know. It feels like painting the head of an axe or never using a hammer for fear of scratching it. I think even with the occasional touch up during my lifetime it wouldn't add any really noticeable hone wear to have to worry about using tape. I think I am just lazy and don't want to have to put tape on my razors all the time lol

That's a real nice looking spike. One of these days I'm going to get myself another one, as the one I have is small and I'd like a bigger one, with the green scales. They are fantastic shaving razors though, as are all my union cutlery blades.
