My 2nd attempt at a resto

Howdy,

So this is my 2nd attempt at a resto which although not perfect I found be to be much for successful. The piece of curly maple came from a tree in my fathers back yard that had to be removed which he kindly cut into a blank for me. I went ahead and used Minwax stabilizer as it was pretty spalted. The wedge was a scrap piece of iron wood I had around. Form was drawn out, cut with a coping saw, and shaped with a block sander. For a finish I just went ahead and applied one last coat of stabilizer to the sanded down scales and then I took some 600 grit to it. After that I rubbed it down with mineral oil and used a dremel with a cloth buffing wheel to give it a bit of luster.


In general I am satisfied with the results but as always I learned a few things(steps in the process to follow and some definite sanding techniques). Questions, comments, or any words of wisdom are always appreciated.
