This was the interesting one for me too, first time I had used this wood for scales, I have made quite a few sets of Pistol and Revolver grips from it..
I went standard with the finish, sanded too 220 dry, then used a Wash coat of 50/50 Tung Oil and Mineral Spirits appplied with 400 grit Wet-r-Dry..
Let that dry for 12 hours, then roughed with synthetic 3M steel wool, Applied 5 coats of Tung Oil roughing between each coat 8 hours between each.. Finally smoothed with x-tra fine synthetic steel wool and finally 3 coats of Ren wax to finish...
I really liked the outcome myself..
The Burls had CA finish over Polyurethane Vacuum Chamber treated blanks, the Chittum although beautiful to look at was a true PITA to get right
