    Thanks guys.
As to the pin being off it is slightly. Trying to photograph the piece as it rolled around while trying to keep the vernier on it for a shot it's about .o8 MM off. Not too bad balancing all the other things that had to come into alignment. Won't make it if it were a Swiss watch part though.
In the pics I'm guessing the curvature of the scale near the end, the way the scale is rounded, the visual disruption of the inlay etc. make it appear off.
In the final shot I split the difference between 2 and 3 mm at 2.5mm and added that to the vernier for a visual of what a difference like that would look like.

One other reference is photo #3 in the first post. Though the scales are angled slightly you can see the pin hole is centered in the brass liner. This photo was obviously taken with the scales finished.

Obviously an optical illusion caused by the shape of the scales in the images of the original post.
In the 1st and 2nd images with the vernier, it actually looks more centered.
Looks like you'll have to give me the scales and start a new set, because .08mm is unacceptable :P

    Cheers,
    Paul

p.s. they're awesome, don't let anyone tell you different

Wow, that is a fine peice of scale engineering and art. They really look good. Have you ever thought about doing some mother of pearl or other materials inlays like on the guitars... I have been thinking about doint it for a while...

    Thank you Paul!
Well I can't very well let you have something that is flawed so I'll have to suck it up and keep them here. I'll get you a set that is done properly. LOL,,,
    Thanks again.

I sometimes spend 6 or 7 hours just sanding scales until I'm happy with the shape and profile so I think I know exactly what you mean when you say the artist in you took over. Don't get me wrong, I can't begin to claim anything like this degree of execution, but the emphasis on making sure that everything lined up is something that I understand.

    Great artistry.

When I first started reading your post, I thought "great another guy trying to make a lazer gun out of a blunderbuss" But I actually like what you did. It shows alot of patience and skill, and an eye for great detail to do that. Hats off to ya.
