Fossil damascus...
Hi guys! A member from another forum, mentioned he had posted a link to a build I did, so I thought it fitting to say hi, and show you all in person. I am new to building razors, but not new to blade work.
It is a 8/8 half hollow. Damascus pattern is called "Fossil", and is at HRC 61. The little triangle bits are comprised on 1084 and 15N20, the "cement" between the pieces, is 1095 with 5% nickel to help keep it bright.
The pivot hole is lined with a bronze bushing, pins are nickel silver, stainless washers, and there are also pivot washers installed.
The scales are carbon fiber woven with copper strands, used to protect fighter aircraft from lightening strikes.
Wedge is file worked nickel silver.
Cutting edge is 2 3/4" OAL open is 9 5/8"
Thanks for looking!

Wow, very nice work. I like the razor a lot.
Will the copper strands oxidize?

I would expect them to a little, but being continually handled and wiped, I thing it would be minimal.

Nice job, very original. I think if it had a French tip I would go nuts for it. But that's a personal preference thing.

Thanked: 13249Your workmanship is excellent
I am not sure of mixing Bronze, Multiple Steels, Nickel, Brass inner washers ??? and Copper on something that is going to get wet with water and chemicals (soaps) ..
What Bevel angle did you target ??, I saw the posts on B&B, have you honed it yet, and tried the shave ??
Again, it does look awesomeLast edited by gssixgun; 03-17-2013 at 10:12 PM.

Thanks guys!!
Glen, galvanic reaction is an issue I considered, sure, but consider all the razors out there with carbon blades, brass inner washers, nickel silver pins, and stainless outer washers. Multiple metals, same environment, wet and soap (alkaline/base) all have the potential to create micro currents and thus micro pit. Any and all damascus blades will have multiple steels, nickel in some, then brass inner washers, maybe, nickel silver or brass pins... I feel it a measurable concern, but manageable.
With a layer of tape, the bevel is inclusive 13.25 degrees.
As for shaving, I admit to NOT being a honemister, and that I need help in that department. Lol!My friends call me Bear.

The steel looks "wild", it's a piece of art!
