Henckels Friodur 8/8 Stainless in Black Horn
CA Inlay xfer
Lined black horn wedge
3rd pin + custom spacer
The grind of this razor is crooked in relation to the orientation of the tang surface planes. every step of the way I made these scales to push towards the pile side to account for it. (front scale ever so slightly drilled longer, scale thickness ever so slightly thinner to allow for front to bend slightly more than rear scale, cross side pivot washer hammered extremely thin, pile side washer made just slightly thicker, drilled out holes a little wider so that slight adjustments could be made during pinning). The tang on this razor is SO thick. But, good planning prevails, no rubbing of the scales on it, and by the time it got pinned up, the blade was centered, so, YAY! Didn't have to goof with it after they were done. Fits like a glove.
Took a wicked edge

Beautiful straight razor Brad. Dealing with all the potential issues that the blade brought you illustrates clearly your skillful craftsmanship. There is going to be a lucky and happy shaver out there.

Thanked: 13247Really nice outcome Brad
I took pics of the last one I did while it was out of the scales..
Helps to illustrate some of the issues one must work through when re-scaling razors and you really can't see the twist that is there sometimes also like you ran into..
Way to adapt and overcome brother

Really glad Glen added to this post because I was having a difficult time following what Undream was saying....but his razor, the Friodur, is beautiful so I knew I wanted to figure it out......the space between the blade and the penny got me a lot closer to realizing that there is no substitute for experience and persistence. The Friodur looks like it would make any whisker cry uncle.
