Cool WM Gilchrist - Black Horn Custom Restore

    Make: William Gilchrist
    Origin: Jersey City, NJ USA
    Era: ca 1851-1861
    Model: #34
    Steel: Carbon
    Grind: Double
    Point: Hollow Notch
    Scales: Black Buffalo Horn .110"
    Wedge: Faux Ivory .065"
    Hardware: Tri-metal Pins and Washers

Nice Satin finish on the steel, the horn simply gleams with a full 3M polishing cloth run from 400-8000 grit.. I have only had a couple of these razor cross my bench over the years, mny understanding is they were only made for 10 years..

Very nice. I am really starting to like stacked wagers on the pins.
    Very nice work!

I believe that would be an honest to god 'rattler' grind.

I've had a few through my hands. I could be mistaken, but I believe my research uncovered that they were an American partner to W&B, and are actually Sheffield steel.

Indeed correct! there are a few examples of Gilchrist with the W & B trademark.

That's a beautiful razor, and a beautiful piece of work!!

The blade looks more swaged than ground. W&B had the Double Swaged and has very much the faux frame back look, but not bellied. Either way, I wish I had it!!
