Thanked: 2591Iwasaki Tamahagane custom restore
Got this one may be a month ago from Japan.
The scales were busted, but the razor had very little issues, a few rusty spots some minor pitting and minimal hone wear.
The restoration I did different than usual. I did not use buffer for the blade restore, instead I want full manual.
400-600-1500 sand paper with Akapin Aoto slurry polish first to get rid of most grinding marks, and the rusty spots (around the pivot hole).
After the sand paper, I used felt with Aluminum Oxide powder 1k and 2k grit to polish to mirror.
After the polishing was done, I etched the blade with hor lemon juice to bring out the hamon, while polishing with the 2k WA powder inbetwwen etch cycles.
In the end the hamon came out nice and milky on top of the mirrored blade.
The original scales were busted so I made a new set from paper Ivory micarta, with black acrylic wedge. I used brass rod and stainless washers to peen the razor.
Surprisingly enough on the scales Iwasaki Tamahagane western razors come with sticker of the tamahagane kanji. Pretty cheap move for such high end razor, but it is what it is. I was able to move the sticker from the old scales to the new ones, it is not in great condition but it is not completely lost either.
Thanks for looking
Stefan

Wow! Stefan I bet she will deliver one awesome shave, beautiful razor, I also like the contrast between the stainless steel washers and the small brass pins that you have peened so not to cover to much of the washer, little details always count.

Your hard work and effort paid off because that razor is beautiful! Congratulations!
Now the envy sets in and my desire for a western style Japanese straight is only intensified.I shave because I want to, not because I have to!
