    Default Old Design Modern Concept

Well I have been messing around with some scale ideas and thought I would try something. I always liked the look of the vintage bone or ivory scales with the small pins that form a design or pattern so thought I would give it a go and add a modern concept to it. I used yellowheart with a metal liner. The tiny pins are nickel silver with a MOP dot in the center. I was going to go with a ebony or holly wedge, but the ebony looked to gaudy. The holly didn't look bad, but I didn't want to start adding alot of colors to the scales. The MOP dot was almost to much. I ended up going with a yellowheart wedge that turned out nicely with the liners. The hardest part was drilling the holes just deep enough so the pins would dig into the wood slightly and wedge into the holes to hold them in place. Went with a tung oil finish. The scales turned out stiffer than I wanted since I didn't factor in the rigidity of the epoxy, but they still have some flex. Once they were done I thought they didn't look bad so figured I would dress up a razor that was lying around. I went with silver hardware to go with the pins and liners. Now I have to decide on whether or not to keep the razor.

That's a really attractive razor you have there. The mother of pearl in my opinion fits perfectly with the overall composition. If the blade wasn't a mirror finish, I don't think the mother of pearl would compliment it. Great job

I love my Halberd. A great shaver. You made that one look awesome. Shave with it a few times to help your decision for keep or not.

Very neat design! Blade looks to be in really mint condition and the scales are very complimentary.
