Default Rodgers Ivory / W&B in Horn

    Couple razors finished up.

A challenging Rodgers. It is actually marked:

    Joseph Rodgers
    Shemeld & Co.
    Sheffield
    1829

Peculiar. No cutlers to her majesty? No norfolk St.? Odd.

And a W&B - the blade was actually restored by the customer, he did a great job! I did the scales

Beautiful work as usual. IIRC Neil Miller has come up with info on a few 'Rodgers' from the old Sheffield days besides the famed Norfolk Street company. I expect that razor came from one of those guys. If Neil sees this maybe he will clear it up.

Beautiful work, that streaked horn is quite something!
Some information in Shemeld & co.
Thomas Shemeld was listed in a Sheffield Directory in 1852 as a razorsmith.
Thomas Shemeld & son was founded in 1879. By 1884 business name change to Joseph Rodgers, Shemeld & Co.
1901 the business is named Shemeld & Co.

That said, this razor has no affiliation with the Joseph Rodgers that we all know well. it is mentioned in a Sheffield history forum, by a descendant of the Shemeld family that one of Thomas sons was named Joseph Rodgers Shemeld, of course his name was used for the company i wonder why?
Interestingly that razor can be dated between 1884 to 1901.

Both are beautifully done. I love the blade profile on the Rogers.

See my previous post asking about the markings on the tang of the Rodgers razor, Two Rodgers razors, are they "Joseph Rodgers & Sons" though? Basically it's a knock-off but I still love the look of it, just wish I had the #1 razor to match! It should be here in two days, can't wait to see those creamy white ivory scales in person!
