Thanked: 60Mens Biz
As a chap that likes to buy from Australia when I can, and one who always likes good and fair prices, I wanted to let you all know about something thats happening at Mens Biz…..
Mens Biz have been my go to supplier of fine shaving supplies for a couple of years now. The next day free delivery is second to none, but the last few times I have gone to order something I have been shocked at the price differences.
Here is a couple of random examples (There are many price hikes to be found)
TOBS Sandlewood @ Mens Biz $27.00
TOBS Sandlewood @ The Shave Shed $18.99
TOBS SandleWood @ The Shaver Hut $22.00 (Used to be the most expensive supplier)
Merkur Futur Chrome @ Mens Biz $109.00 (They say they offer a "free Sample Pack of blades" but its not really free)
Merkur Future Chrome @ The Shave Shed $89.00
Merkur Futur Chrome @ The Shave Hut $92.00
There are many more inflated prices across the site, so heads up you Aussie gents who want quality at a fair price, Mens Biz have had a price hike….Personally I'm hiking to another store…Last edited by kevinred; 03-06-2014 at 10:10 PM.
It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

That's a bit of a shame Kevin, they were good value. I must order some stuff from them soon, so will let everyone know the outcome.
I must say I've always been floored by their "overnight delivery" though. My orders really do arrive the next day !!
Has the Aussie dollar dipped recently ? That could be one factor in the price increases.http://straightrazorplace.com/workshop/18504-welcome-workshop-how-do-i-where-do-i-what-do-i-answers-here.html

Thanked: 60
I have been a loyal customer of theirs…I decided to write them a quick letter today, explaining my findings and surprise. I'm glad they replied, here is what they said;
Hi Kevin.
I’m really sorry to hear that and I appreciate that you’ve taken the time to let me know.
The reason for the price increase is that the exchange rate against the Euro and Pound has dropped about 20% and we’ve hit significant price rises for 2014 on the products themselves. Other retailers will realise this price increase eventually as they sell through their stock.
Under the new pricing, we were making a loss on some items by the time we post them out. Something had to change but it looks like I haven’t got it right, so I’m reviewing a number of things and have already made a few changes this morning.
Thanks again for the email. I hate to think we’ve lost you as a customer and I hope you can give us another shot sometime.
Regards,
Nathan
I'm glad they got back to me. I really do like Mens Biz but I will definatly shop around from now….It is not how much we have, but how much we enjoy, that makes happiness

Next day free delivery is extinct where I'm at. (Unless it's the local pizza place.)

Good on you for letting them know about it . Sadly it seems to be the way down here in both our fair lands. I use a online supplier for bit and pieces and he too does the overnight delivery, amazing really when it can take up to a week to get a letter from wellington to invercargill I get a package from auckland.

I thought that might have been the case; the exchange rate is going to make it really hard for us in the coming months as the local retailers catch up.
Still, the quick delivery and oft-included freebies/samples still make it worthwhile to buy from them.

Thanks Kevin
It's easy to buy stuff without thinking about shopping around too much as usually things are pretty similar in price.
On a similar line does anyone know Aussie made stuff that EX rates don't bother? (other than things you get a Wollies)
The only one I can think of off hand is the new brand uppercut deluxe but it's not a huge range
