You couldn't build a fire and roast some water ? I would have gone on shave strike. Or maybe drain some radiator water out of the truck when it was warm enough or , or , or anything but cold water. Glad to hear you made it through.

Geez, what a bunch of big girls blouse's you lot are. I cold water shave every time, and the occasional cold water shower never killed anyone. Just like being caught in the rain on a winters bike ride really. Come around and see me. I have a teaspoon of cement for each of youse .

When I used to surf a lot more, and occaisonally slept on the beach, a cold shave in seawater was the norm. That will help you get that rugged Aussie way about ya!

I didn't know there was such a thing as hot water until after I got married. Indoor plumbing was also a mystery to me. In the military, we used water trucks called "camels", for obvious reasons, that were not heated so a cold shower and shave were the norm.

There's nothing wrong with cold water shaves. Good for the skin. Good for the environment.

All this talk of hot water, or the lack thereof, has put me in mind of what we used to do in the bush at some of the Stations I worked on for season as a Combine operator. A few of the places had what was called a Donk or a Donkey. This was a 44 gallon drum laid on it's side with a bit of plumbing running from it a short way to a wash/shower cubicle. We'd light a fire under the 44gal full of water. When the water was hot enough it would condense along the pipes to the wash area. It had to be boiling in the 44, but by the time it had steamed along the pipes it was hot, but not boiling, scald your skin off hot. It used to heat up quite quickly...Well within an hour anyway. Quick enough for us. This was in the land of outdoor dunnies and probably wouldn't appeal to the un-initiated though.
