Thanked: 0Naniwa 12K
Hi all,
New member here and longtime lurker, first off thanks to everyone on the site who has helped me on my journey with straight razors!
Would like to ask for some advice on where people have purchased their Naniwa 12k stones. Its basically the last stone to finishing my new set (had massive HAD recently..).
Ive searched and found some but the shipping costs are ridiculous (~35$+).. making the shipping costs approaching half of the stones costs lol!
At times like these, I wish I lived in America! haha
Your help would be appreciated,
Cheers!Last edited by greencow; 11-20-2014 at 11:50 PM.

I got mine from SRD. I got all my stones from them except the 20K. I may be wrong but some places ship free if you order a certin $ amount. the 12K and maybe some soap oil for your razor. it adds up. Good luck and welcome to the place.

Thanked: 3225Got my Naniwa 12K suoer stone here Naniwa Super-Stone Japanese Whetstone Sharpening Stone, 12,000 grit :: Knife Sharpeners . It is 20mm/3/4 inch thick not 3/8 inch thick and the cost in Ozzie dollars would be very close. No idea what shipping would be but might be worth asking.

Thanked: 0Thanks for all the responses!
I wanted the 12ks because I have a gok20 on it's way..
but I'm thinking it may be too big of a jump from Norton 8k to a 20k.
What do you guys think? Should I just spill the money on a ss12k or is there another solid alternative?
thanks guys

There's no getting away from it when you live down here, you have to purchase from the States,
and that means shipping costs similiar to the price of the item itself
That's a bit of an exaggeration....having said that, I've bought all my Naniwas from Maggard Razors and I'm VERY happy
with the service, packaging and the communication.
Let us know what you decide, and please, introduce yourself to the "Downunder" sub-forum, you might find a cheaper way
to get your stone and you will definitely learn of an alternative if one is available

Thanked: 1184If you can shave off the 8k, which you should be able too, then the 20k may work as a polisher just fine. More laps but you will get there. Personally I wouldn't be in any hurry to go past the 8k anyway. Perfect your edge on that stone and you will be ready to move on.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
