Duplicating my earlier post in the regular SOTD thread (missed this special thread till now, my apologies)
An early morning shave to commemorate ANZAC day.
As a New Zealander waking up under an Aussie sun I am touched to think of the incredible bond forged between our countries in times of war and the sacrifices made by so many to ensure our way of life.
Lest we forget.

Today in Australia we commemorate all our brave troops who landed at Gallipoli on this day 100 years ago in the First World War.
This was the birth of the ANZACs - Australian and New Zealand Army Corp
Many of us attended a dawn service this morning to pay our respects to the many thousands of Australian and New Zealand soldiers who lost their lives in this landing.
Here is the ode we say each ANZAC day to honour these brave men.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest we forget.RickyB

Thanked: 580Thanks to those who found the time to participate at such short notice. On a lighter note, I was sitting with a couple of elderly RSA members swapping stories about the Anzac landing. They swear it's true but who knows. Will tell it as best I can. Somehow, in the confusion of the morning, a lone Australian ended up on one of the Kiwi long boats before dawn. Nervous, and needing a piss, he stood beside a fellow soldier. "Crikey, that water is cold." he said, referring to the length of his appendage. Without looking up, the Kiwi replied "Yeah, bloody deep too."
