Looking for Aussie collectors
I got a bengall in the mail today I got off ebay. Has a nice etching on one side made for someone in Sydney. Unfortunately has a crack in the blade at the y on the Sydney. Before I cut this down to make a kamisori out of it for a project as I said I would with the next bad blade I got I am wondering if someone would want it for collection purposes for the etching. Im going to hold off 2 weeks on doing anything so if you are interested or know someone who would be please contact me by pm. Thanks Ed

Ask Joan.. "Renspen"
The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 22Hi Eddy- thanks for posting and asking ..... yes, I am trying to conserve as much of the "australianised' history on razors as I can. Will be compiling all into a book eventually so the history is not lost. But in the meantime, please don't cut this one up! Have PM's you.
Cheers

Thanked: 22Hi Ed ...that blade is a little unusual. Most of the 'made expressly for...' razors have that inscription on the front face, not the back of the blade. Hard to read the owner's name a..it is T Short?

Joan it said expressly for T Sharp Tabacconist Perth WA with the other side saying Bengall Imperial. The one I am sending also has both sides etched from memory

Bongo it is in a antique store and as Joan collects I am just pointing it out. They want far too much because of the rarity for me to see it as worthwhile as someone who would buy it for use

Thanked: 22Thanks for positing the pics Ed ...
T Sharp's was a tobacconist and men's goods like leather wallets etc from 1906 - to 2005 on the corner of William and Hay st in Perth (now the main mall) that had been in family ownership all of that time, albeit as brother/cousins/nephews etc. The shop is still there but was converted into a pen (yep, writing equipment) speciality store when the last family related owners sold out and retired 10 year ago. This example is interesting in that the 'made expressly for ' etching/engraving is on the back of the blade, allowing the Bengall brand to still be boldly displayed on the front.
