Among the collection I have a nice T.R Cadman,Sheffield England Razor with possibly ivory scales.
On one side the tang is stamped with " Made for C. Davis. Hobart. The blade is etched with Vivid. The jimps are also quite pronounced.
My 1st thought was that the razor was custom made for Charles Davis as he was a wealthy man but of course his hardware store would have sold razors so this would have been made for his stores distribution.
Now as a Hobart girl I know Charles Davis arrived in Hobart Tasmania as a convict from the UK in 1842. After receiving his ticket of leave he and John Sempel opened an ironmongery. This business became Charles Davis in 1867 and was in control of the Davis familythrough himself until he was 87 years old, and then was run by his son and grandson until the family lost control in 1971.
Charles Davis was a vital member of Hobarts economic progress and a generous member of that growing community.
*The T.R. Cadman stamp on the tang would suggest a date of between 1833-1917
*The blade etching from 1860's
*The name of the store being Charles Davis
in 1867.
So I have a date of 1867 - 1917.
How do I close that 50 year range?
Any ideas what else should I look for?

Sometimes plus or minus 50 years is all you get.

Pictures would help. Blade etchings like 'Vivid', IMHO, typically show up in the 1880's, but a lot depends on style and how it's executed.
