Wow hope you come out OK. Worst I ever saw or didn't see was fires in Chibougamau when I was living in Chicoutimi 356km/221miles NW, one day we only had night and it was snowing ashes all day long

Been a lot of that north of here. Those who were lucky only have to clean soot from their houses.

I wish you guys the best. We fell in love with Australia a couple of summers ago (well, our summer-your winter in June), and the bird-life and natural beauty we saw a few hundred kilometers in from the coast sort of meandering from Brisbane down to Sydney was just astonishing. So many beautiful national parks, and the people are just wonderful. We plan to go back in a couple of years, hopefully go up "the tooth" towards Cairn, and maybe even fly to Alice Springs and explore the real bush a bit. Take care, and stay-safe. I have just been reading about the hellish fire-generated thunderstorms-almost apocalyptical, really.

Be careful and run when they say run

Luckily not in a typical bushfire zone. Would mostly just have to deal with ash & embers worst case.

My little street survived the New Year's eve fire but I evacuated for the firestorm that was supposed to happen 2 days later. My neighbours stayed until they lost power & they then moved to the lawn bowls club down the road which was also a station for the fireys. They RFS a super job & halted the 2 fires that threatened our area. I heard later a number of them lost their houses as they all live in the sticks out here. Cruel irony.

I've only just returned home after being away for a week & everything is covered in fine ash. Power & internet is finally back. How long for I don't know. We are a small section of the south coast between Moruya & Narooma that hasn't been scorched. Hoping we stay that way. Wev'e got a 30 degree day forecast for Friday & a fire 32klms away. So over these bloody fires !
