Default Give ya 'Roo a good pasting, whaddya think?

It was recently proposed to me that a single sided 'roo strop might make for a good pasted strop on the flesh side. I've never given it a thought before. Has anyone given this a go before?...I'm lookin' at you Jimbo.

There ain't no beating a quality, hand wattle tanned, hide. 3+ mm! Wow! I wish I could lay my hands on that thickness in Eastern Grey or Reds. I can't get a permit for Bennetts, not that they're avaiable from my local tannery anyway.

I dont know wether its readly available its tanned with formalahide probly get if from whipp makers as it makes a good tongue for the cracker , Its beautiful leather if ya could get it in harness or even bridle it would make a superb strop I would think plus very attractive

Bazz re the first post: I can tan a hide, I just can't stand the smell. I'll leave it to the pro's.

Re the second post: I have plenty of redhide on hand. I have it all ear marked for whips. I have four orders to get to for whips, with others I've asked to wait until I get to them, amongst everything else. But I might have to maybe just do a few Redhide strops for the fun at some stage.

A bloke never knew how much people wanted leather work of various kinds done, I tell ya! Something so simple to do, and so many people who don't know how to do it themselves. Or so it seems. Even when I had no kids and was making knives, I had people wanting them and I'm thinking, 'Just grab a bit of decent steel and a file and hook in...'. They're a weird mob I reckon!

Have leather, work will find you, I am often speaking to my local saddler about some sort of project. I do a few basic repairs when a strap on a bridle etc breaks. The local bloke is pretty good and getting a lot better. Has built some nice custom team roping saddles.

    cheers

I have my old man at me to make him up fancy bridles for the horse property we have, but I keep saying it's just not going to happen. I've put it in the 'too time consuming' basket. As I've said, a lot to do, and little time to do it in. Glad I can keep busy though. I'd go nuts if I had nothing to make.
