I am currently using an Arkansas stone for the initial grind, with kero, then go to a very fine stone the old man used to sharpen his muelsing and tailing gear with. I also use a barbers hone and a couple of other fine white natural stone picked up from and antque stores. The last two are very like what an old time barber in West Perth uses on his straights. I find a mix of light gun oil and kero is a good thing.
