Black Beauty rides again
I thought as this was an Aussie made strop it belonged in the Down under forum.
Big ups to MickR for helping me restore this old girl.
This is the first strop I ever bought. I think it was in 1983.
It is not the 'junior' size one you occasionally see today but a full 24" to the end of the handles & about 2.4" wide.
The leather was starting to rot so I bought some compressed black leather a while back & had meant to replace the 2 straps for some time but the stitching aspect was something I did not have the patience to address. I made my own spur straps once & swore I wouldn't sew leather again
Enter MickR who even had the right colour & size thread. Problem solved.
I think Mick's stitching is even better than the original.
First 2 are before pics, one shows the Christian & Sons stamp.
The rest are the restored strop & show Mick's great work in spite of the vinyl tabs degrading & cracking in parts. I wanted to keep it all original.
The leather is like black ice with no draw but that's exactly how she was from new & I learned to strop that way & I like it. Hope fully she & I go for another quarter century or more.
Thanx mick. I'm more than pleased with the outcome & including your awesome roo strops & my Kanayama I have more than enough leather for my razors now.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Heeler ~ My job was limited to cutting the leather & drilling the stitching holes.
You ought to give yours some new skin. Never know how it'll look till ya have a go.The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.
