Performance ? Well it's pretty 'warming' to the skin hehe, but that settles very quickly.
That sounds right up my alley. I am the kind of bloke that enjoys the initial burn. In fact, the bigger the better.
I like it fine & in fact never tried any commercial ones before making it but I had a pretty good idea of ingredients from my research. I always shake it before use but that's because the Bay oil floats on top. There may be some other EO's in that layer but the smell is dominated by the Bay. It's not a chore , just a few quick shakes & it's good to go.
The great thing about making your own is that you can tailor it to suit you.

Just found this formula that uses Witch Hazel as a base with very little alcohol. May be of interest ?

Think I will stick to the 'Top Alcohol' method. Chiefly for the burn factor

    Thanks Oz

I thought about making my own, but got turned off with the thought of smelling of booze instead of the bay rum.

So for those who have made their own, does the alcohol smell stick around, or does the bay rum smell overcome it?

It's not long lived as a scent but the EO's & Bay make sure you don't smell like a drunk

You could keep a small bottle in the glove box for when you see the RBT boys in blue

I made 2 bottles following the recipe on AoM. The first one I screwed up on but the second I followed the recipe exact and it turned out ok. IMO, the burn is not as strong as Pinaud or something else. I rarely use it because I'm just not impressed with the scent.

I could bathe in Master's Bay Rum though.

Instead of rum or vodka couldn't you just use rubbing alcohol after all the alcohol content is much higher isn't it?

Aye, ye be right I ended up using a very expensive Guatemalan Rhum only because it was the only thing in the store half down the pipes half stewing and brewing . still cant get the bay oil though. essential oil in china is considered the same as medicine so it is controlled by the government in the same fashion as traditional Chinese medicine lots we cant have because We the people have no idea how to use it and can hurt ourselves.
so now I have cinnamon and black pepper rhum aftershave.
    wankers!!
