Thanked: 23refurbished razors
Hey guys is there anywhere in aus that sells "vintage" razors like whipped dog, invisible edge or the restored razor, they have budget razors and although they aren't fully refurbished they're in very good condition and affordable, the refurbished razors are like new and really well priced,a couple of them are dearer but the rest are cheap enough to be extremely tempting and i was thinking it would be great if we had a couple retailers like that

Thanked: 983None that I know of mate. You could always start doing it yourself if you have the know-how. I don't see enough reasonable second hand razors around that just need a little TLC. They are either beyond repair or too over-priced to make it worthwhile. I suppose ebay would be the answer, but I'venever had an ounce of luck with buying a razor of bay. Always I get out-bid.

Yeah, the problem is cheap access to the raw material. In Australia you would be hard pressed to get the unrestored razor for the price whippeddog sells his shave ready ones for, at least enough of them to make a buisness out of it.
Having said that, if you were just after one razor as a "user" I'm sure there will be someone here with something spare, and they can help you out.

Thanked: 94Having said all that, with the interweb and international shipping you'd have to complete with whipped dog, and since our second hand market has been driven up I don't think there is going to be much room to make a living.
I've recently bought a Joseph Rodgers from ebay to restore as a project for myself and that ended up costing $30. To restore and make a profit commercially I'd be looking at selling for at least $120, at which point whipped dog undercuts me. You have to take into account consumables such as new scales, spacers, pins, washers, polishing consumables as well as wear on honing equipment and labour.

I've got a few up for sale in the Classifieds at the moment if you're looking for a reasonably priced, shave ready straight.
As others have said, you couldn't do what Larry does in Australia. Not enough local stock of straights and if you buy them from the US or Europe, then postage is going to push the price up a fair bit.

Because we don't have the same size population as the U.S. It would be impossible to run a business at those prices. Just a WAG but he must have a huge turnover from such a large newbie pool or he won't be in business for very long.

Just remember the $30 razors look pretty rough & the $55 ones start to get towards the classifieds quality so really $50 -$70 is a fair price but I can't fathom doing an edge restore for $15. Guy must be a machine
