A Quick Question for the Aussie's. I saw in the news that your Olympic committee had some kind of crap fit and punished a couple of your men on the swimming team for posting pictures of themselves with guns whilst in America. My first thought was, the committee was over reacting to a couple young men screwing around, who had not hurt a soul. Question, what is the thought of the average person in Australia?

    Just curious, Don V

They signed a contract with the AOC so the AOC decides what is appropriate & not the average Aussie but IMHO the boys were just being boys.

I agree with you. Those guys have a bit of a history... but that is totally unrelated to this incident. And it turns out that the swimming team were actually taken to a gun range as a team building exercise once, which to me makes this whole episode seem a bit hypocritical, IMO.

Media over-reaction it seems. Problem is a lot of city people tend to swallow the garbage the media feed them. Having said that, I think the average Aussie couldn't really give a rat's about it.

One of the young men in question is lucky not to be in jail for serious assault (IMO), so I think there's a sore spot there in terms of PR - hence the overreaction (again, IMO). However, I have an issue with the idea that sports men and women need to be saints. This view seems particularly prevalent for Olympic athletes and I question why. People are people. Just because you can swim fast does not make you immune to being an asshole.
