Default Hone Book From Aus ...

Found this on ebay USA. Opening bid is $75.00 USD and no details. Did some googling and found it is 64 pages, published by the Pymble, N.S.W. : The tools & Trades History Society and The Traditional Tools Group, [2010?]

More googling and found a website that sells it shipped for around 17 GBP. I'm holding off but thought it might be more easily found where you gentlemen are so I'm posting this .....

Natural 19th & early 20th century sharpening stones and hones / Brian Read and Doug Morgan.

Anyone seen and read this title ?

I haven't, but it looks very interesting. Thanks Jimmy, and nice find!

Thanx Jimmy ~ some interesting links to follow there too.

I saw it. I already called the library and put them to work trying to track it down. Seems to have been published in 2010? I was heavily tempted to BIN, but figured if I can get it through the rental system, or as you say, for 18 bucks..I'm all in for 18 bucks. lol.

It looks interesting. I like the library idea although the chance of that working here in Taiwan is 0.

    Jimmy,

When I was lurking I saw this post and I have done some homework.

I called one of the US Distributors and they have been informed this publication is about to expire. Meaning, there is little intention of letting it hit the press again.

I was informed that if you want it, you better order it before it's gone.

I have hopes that a .pdf version will appear online or a new edition will be released. There is a huge amount of book piracy. My book was not only ripped off, it was translated.

I think the most important thing on these matters is how current is the work. Maybe this is one of the areas where the market dictates value but no one collects that data. Now that would be a great project for me. :-)

    Thanks for your note.

I'm curious as to what went on with that. Sounds like a story worth telling. I'm a willing audience for you too.

    Sure.

In January 1997, I co-authored a book, Engineering Complex Systems with Models and Objects. It was not a big seller and is now out of print. However it is still used in some grad schools, among them Cornell.

In 2003, I was invited to China to teach a PhD course in Systems Engineering at three interconnected universities. I accepted and agreed to go in 2004, using my book as a base since by then it had been accepted as an international standard. When I offered to make a .pdf version available free of charge, my TAs and the people there laughed so hard some of them cried. Finally one of them said, "We stole that years ago."

As things turned out, they didn't care about the book or its contents. They knew it quite well.
