Thanked: 6Trip down under
Hey guys, thought this would be the best place on the forum to ask. I've finally got my flights booked for heading to oz at the end of October this year for 5 weeks. Thought that maybe I could try and pick up a few razors while I'm there. Planning, at the moment of stopping in Brisbane, surfers p, cairns and maybe Townsville, then back to Sydney for a week or so to catch up with friends (and check a few job agencies so see what sort of jobs might about if I decide to emigrate). Any of you recommend and stores / markets along that route where I might pick up any bargain STR8s?
I know it might seem far away but I'll probably forget to ask nearer the time. Can't wait to get back over.

Nahh, no bargain straights left here. only really expensive ones.
Seriously tho all the junk & antique stores here think all their rusty old razors are worth the price of a mint Dubl Duck.
If you're in the CBD of Sydney. There's a shop called Rosebud Antiques in King St. Newtown but again don't expect bargains. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Thanked: 1587Yes, IME Oz is right. Australia is not a land of milk and razors. Antiques dealers over charge and for some unknown reason new razors here (eg Dovo) cost more than they do to buy online and get shipped over. You are not going to be able to get anything here that you cannot get anywhere else, except perhaps an overpriced Bengall or unless you get really lucky.
It's a similar situation with many things in fact - electrical equipment, for example. For some reason Australian prices are higher than the exchange rates would suggest they need to be.

Was talking to one the guys in my local toolmart about the priceof powertools over here, he reconed it is to do with peoples available income, people supposedly have more cash to spend, and are therefore willing/ able to pay more for stuff.
With regards to antique shops a lot of them would be cosidered not much more than junkshops in the UK (where a lot of the stock comes from IMO).Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 983I would check Lancasters Antiques out if you happen to travel to Toowoomba just 2 hours west of Brisbane. It's opposite the railway station. Brisbane and Redcliffe, I have no idea where to look. Everything I've seen in the small places is just junk. If you are stopping anywhere on the north side of Brisbane for any length of time, give me a yell. Be good to met a jet setting, international shaver .
