    Default norton starter set

Where in Australia can I get a reasonably priced Norton set, found one on amazon fir $130 but they won't ship to me, I have seen them for around $230 Australian but that is too much. Any good advice ?
    Thanks for your help ed.
Ps I've looked on the bay, none there.
Pps I thought the set best as you get the lapper with it though I am not sure I really need the 220/1k as I don't intend to do restores, but if I don't get it I will end up needing it. I am trying to embrace Lynn and johnywimms simple shaving ideology.
I do have an 8ish k and a 12ish k Welsh slate hones, but they are quite small app 40mm x 150mm, I just am not confident enough in my technique yet to be sure I am doing a proper job on these little stones, or should I just get on with what I've got, and if so should I get something finer or coarser to compliment?
Sorry for the shambolic, rambling post, it seems to be my stock in trade.

330_mate on EBay has Naniwas at a reasonable price and Carba-tec have DMT325 for around $65.00 when I bought mine.
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Yes it's a pity, I have often thought about buying my own gear and honing. But when you work out the setting up cost and compare it to what you pay for someone else to do it ($15-20 here) you can get a lot of razors honed for a long time before you've recouped your equipment cost.

I guess it depends on how fancy you want to go with the fear I suppose, the Norton set for $130 would be ok, I don't know about the history of honing but I can't imagine that massively fine grit stones and 200x magnification were always "requirements" for honing a razor. And there was a whole thread about only using a Norton 4/8k.
For the same price i could probably get 5 or 6 honings including postage both ways. But it is also about being self sufficient, in the event of armagedon I am not sure the post office would continue to trade. :-)

Initial cost is a thing but if you keep using a straight it's not so exe.
I thought my first strop was a big investment. $90 in 1983. I think that's about $3 per year.

"So" from Japan-tool.com is good to deal with and last time i used him the prices are good for what you get.

It's easier to chat with him via email than negotiating the website, he is happy to discuss what you are trying to do and what will work.

He's in Australia but the items can come from Japan depending where he's got them stashed away.

The quartons aren't recommended because the technique required on Such a short hone isn't necessarily the same as that used on full size, or that's pretty much what I got from a different thread some time ago.
Bear in mind that your hone will need lapping before use, so you will want something to do that with.
I can't help more than that, I dealt with tools from Japan, and 330_mate to get my hone and lapping plate.

I got my first hones from King Of Knives, though they aren't Nortons. I still don't own a Norton, but what I have works for me...Well they do ever since Os pointed out the incorrect labelling on one of the stones. I was wondering why my razor would get nice and sharp, and then seem to dull right down when I moved on to the 'higher' grit.
