There were many things he told about Australia but cold climate was never one of these.
Perhaps cold didn't come up, or maybe Finns are immune to cold.

Melbourne winter can be extremely cold and yet only be around 1-2c, the problem is, we have high moisture levels compared to places that snow.
I have been to many places around the world with snow and sub zero temps and find it far more comfortable than a typical Melbourne winter.
I also have a friend from Finland living in Melbourne and she complains constantly how cold it gets here.

Things are relative and depends on the wind as well. For me, the 'cold' is something between -10 C (14 F) and -20 C (4 F) depending on a wind (and here in the coastline it always winds straight either from the north pole or Poland). And the 'hot' means something more than 20 C (68 F). At 25 C (77 F) i'll take my coat and leave...

I have a lot of respect for the Finns, this comes from seeing many crazy photos on the net of Finns doing all sorts of outdoor activities in extreme cold with nothing more than casual clothing on.

That just made the label wrong, not the hat .

So... having read this thread there seem to be some keywords to take into consideration in choosing a hat for Carl.
~ grey. Australia. daughter. winter. warm. ~

I think this one fits the criteria nicely
