Thanked: 995The dealer offered me a choice of Schuberth or Arai. I asked him what he wore (BMW dealer) so the German association won over. Conditions were right for me to live. I do not argue with anyone about luck. Over the years I've see people live who should not and otherwise. I have no answer for why that is true, just to make as much meaning from a life while you have a chance to live.
I used to ride a 1967 Triumph Bonneville but gave that up when my job pulled me into the neurotrauma units and I had a pack of little kids running around the house. I started riding again just a few years ago and forgot what a s***-eating grin felt like until then. I've done the no helmet thing. Never again or without my jacket either. Might make no difference the next time, but I'll go with a clear conscience.

Thanked: 2027Other than leaking oil all over the garage,my 67 Bonnie was a great ride, until she got nailed by a truck and I ended up with a steel plate in my head Put the engine in a go-cart,was one fast ride.

Glad you're OK.
My skull only bounced and spun down pavement once in 45 years of riding and, in the big picture, it was a good day. A 900-lb GoldWing was a washout but I had definitely dressed for the fall, not the ride, that day. YMMV."We'll talk, if you like. I'll tell you right out, I am a man who likes talking to a man who likes to talk."

Glad you're still breathing Mike. Precisely why anytime I've ridden it's always been full helmet and face for me. You look cool w/ a half, but not so cool w/ half a face. Get well man, and God bless.
Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

In the past I raced enduros and XC.. I'm a big fan of top of the line helmets!!
Glad you were wearing one. Hopefully it will be speedy recovery.

I've mentioned this before in other posts but I'll do it again.
I had a friend I worked with and when he was in his 50s he decided to get a Harley. He made fun of helmets and would say things similar to folks who refused to wear seat belts in cars back in the 80s. He was riding in Tucson and some gal in a pickup ran a stop sign and T Boned him. He had massive head injuries. After a week they took him off life-support and he died. Would a helmet have saved his life? I don't know but without one he had no chance at all and paid the price for it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

I did not ride for too long but the helmet saved my head once.
From their stillness came their non-action...Doing-nothing was accompanied by the feeling of satisfaction, anxieties and troubles find no place

Glad to hear you're still with us and no worse off than you are. I can't count the number of motorcycle wrecks I've had the misfortune of working and without exception, the protective gear really made the difference. When all is said and done, however, keep on ridin'!
Last night, I shot an elephant in my pajamas..........
