    Default Moustache Wax Reviews

    Hello!

I know a lot of guys here sport moustaches and that there has been a number of wax related discussions over the years, so I thought I'd start a wax review thread.
If there are enough reviews, the moderators can look into adding a forum section or something of the like.

Please copy and paste the review format (below) and keep this thread to just reviews to avoid clutter. Open a new thread to discuss individual products: if there is enough response, all of the new and existing moustache wax related threads can be put into a moustache section along with this review thread (perhaps it can be called the Moustache Parlour).

Please feel free to contribute with any experiences that you've had (even if your wax has already received a review), that way we can get a nice broad perspective on the different waxes out there.

Special thanks to HNSB for his assistance!

    Wax:
TOBS Mr. Taylor's Moustache Wax (tube)

    Maker's Web site/product details:
Mens Shaving Products | Mens Shaving Gifts | Taylor of Old Bond Street

    Amount and price:
15ml/14g/0.5 oz for £5.95 or $12.75 CAD from Fendrihan

    Reviewer’s climate:
Southern Ontario, Canada. Cold winters, hot summer.

    Reviewer's Moustache style(s):
    English handlebar, light curl, natural

    Consistency and firmness:
It is a moisturizing cream wax in a tube, feels watery when rubbed between your fingers, unlike clubman's than feels more paste like.

    Scent:
Mr. Taylor's Taylor Of Old Bond Street

    Application and visibility:
You only need to apply a very small amount. If you over apply, you'll see white bits in your moustache.

    Durability:
It has a soft hold, made for more of a natural look (in my opinion). Because it's not a hard wax, it will not last when wet (similarly to clubman's).

    Additional thoughts and conclusions:
This wax has an amazing scent, just like Mr. Taylor's shaving cream (a little better if you ask me). I would recommend this is you wanted a soft hold wax to use in conjunction with a more firm hold wax. It could also be used on the days that you don't want a styled look but still want a tidy moustache. It's also meant to moisturize.
From the TOBS website: "The professional's choice for the discerning gentleman, use our Moustache Wax 15ml to moisturize and hold for an elegant finish".

    Wax:
    Firehouse Wacky Tacky

    Maker's Web site/product details:
Quality Moustache Wax, Firehouse Moustache Wax

    Amount and price:
    U.S. & INTERNATIONAL PRICING: $8.00 per 1 oz. (28g) tin

U.S. Shipping & Handling: $3.00 (for up to two tins)
Delivery is 2-5 business days after shipping.

    Reviewer’s climate:
New Orleans, LA USA Swampy, Humid and Hot (previously Mojave Desert VERY HOT and DRY)

    Reviewer's Moustache style(s):
    English, Dali, Classic Handlebar

    Consistency and firmness:
Very Firm, extremely Tacky, Best to warm it before application

    Scent:
    Light somewhat waxy and spicy

    Application and visibility:
Warm with a blow dryer before use, need very little, one tin lasted me almost a whole year, if dark mustache no visibility, may need to comb through mustache if over applied

    Durability:
Great Hold, even in extreme heat and humidity, may need to reapply after about 8-10 hrs, Small touch ups as required

    Additional thoughts and conclusions:
I have been VERY satisfied with this wax, It has a very long lasting durable hold even in extreme circumstances. I would strongly recommend this to anyone with a darker mustache who is looking for a well defined shaped look. They do also have lighter waxes both in color and in hold. I have done everything from a soft Handlebar to an extreme Dali with this wax and it has lived up to every challenge I throw at it. The one thing I would mention again is to make sure you warm it before attempting to get some out of the tin as it is a VERY hard wax and is almost impossible to remove cold. It starts out pretty soft but with time gets harder each time you open and clse the tin trapping air in with the wax. In conclusion, I would say this is one of the best waxes on the market today, made by a firefighter in Mississippi, He mixes and tests every batch of wax himself, he also donates a quarter from every tin sold to a different charity every year!!

I'm a big fan of Firehouse Wacky Tacky and use it often. Sometimes even after a shower my bars are in perfect shape. It's made in Mississippi so it's idea for our kind of weather. With softer waxes my stache will sometimes droop but Wacky Tacky is the iron man hold even in rain forest heat and humidity.

I will be watching this thread. I just use a tube of stuff I get at the drug store. I try to trim mine so the hairs that curl naturally do all the work and just add a little after it gets wet to help it stay in shape. I may try something new is why I am watching.
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I used to use Clubman stache was and even the softer varieties of hard wax are a ton better. My three musketeers are:
    Firehouse Wacky Tacky
    Oregon Wild Hair
    Stache Bomb

Those are stacked by stiff, medium, and fairly soft. I sometimes get lazy and use the old school pomades (i.e. Murray's or Dax High and Tight) but they really droop in warm weather.
