    Default Pilar, Hemingway's boat.

While at the local bookstore yesterday I noticed Ernest Hemingway's boat, Pilar on the cover of the August issue of Wooden Boat magazine. Fantastic article. Hemingway purchased the boat in 1934 from Wheeler Shipbulding Co. and had it modified for his style of sport fishing. If you love old boats, fishing for marlin or are just a Hemingway fan you will enjoy this article. There are several sites on the internet with pictures of this boat and the great grandson of the designer is planning on bringing out a modern version of the Pilar same lines with updated power, electronics and communication gear.

Like the P 51 Mustang, the Vincent Black Lightning Motorcycle, the Pilar rates right up there with them. Classics all.

    Thank you for the article.
It was not until now that I realized that the Pilar in Islamorada, Florida is a replica, I've been on it many times. Now I feel cheated.

I don't think I will make it to Cuba to see the original.
