I killed a bird today
I didn’t MEAN to
It was an accident
Stop looking at me like that
There I was driving to work
In the sunshine
Listening to Frank Sinatra sing about
Cocaine and champagne
And there he was
A Crow
I beeped
And then felt his little body
Hit against the underside of my car
With a sickening thud
I felt sad and wrong
It’s stupid I know
To mourn his death
But I still think about him
And wish I was a Buddhist
Sweeping insects from my path
Lest I harm
