    Default Pomade

So, I've taken to growing my hair out rather than sporting the tell-tale high and tight fades that so many military members are accustomed to. Below is a picture of how I've been styling my hair for the last few weeks. I've been using Axe brand pomade, but every time I look at it, I feel like a cheap high school kid. I hate seeing it on my shelf, and it's about empty, so I was wondering. With all of the experimentation in men's grooming to be found here, surely someone's come across a few really good pomades. I'm looking for something with a moderate amount of hold, but that doesn't look like your hair has been soaked and gelled. Something that I can run a comb through throughout the day to keep it tamed. I don't want my hair feeling "crunchy" ever again.

Excuse the stink eye. This was taken as a funny photo to be sent to a girlfriend

A fashion show stylist trick is to use K-Y jelly. You can get some crazy styles if you are so inclined. Throughout the day you can re-wet it and style it again. No crunch. Back before shaving my head I gave up hair gel for some generic jelly. I was happier with the results.

I make my own with olive oil and bees wax. It is crazy inexpensive super easy to make and works well. As you vary the amount of bees wax the hold changes also. I do very small batches and don't have a small scale so I go by guess and feel. If I was to venture a guess I'd say its one part wax to 5 parts oils. It takes about an almond size gob to do my hair, so a little goes a long way.

I've used Layrite for as long as I can remember now. I sport a high and tight pomp and it works great. Nice thing is that it's water based so it washes out nice and easy unlike the wax based ones.

I had good results from American Crew and also used various Tigi products. Eventually I decided I didn't agree with the cost of those products, so I switched to some other brands from Sally's Beauty Supply men's section with mixed results. As for Axe, if it works keep it, you can always hide it in a drawer when not in use.

If you want to try something a little more old school, how about Vitalis or Brylcreem. You can buy it at most Walgreens for under $10. The first picture is Vitalis the second is Brylcreem after both have dried and been combed through. Not "crunchy". I've been using both products for a couple of years and both do a good job.

A man should only look in the mirror when he shaves.

Usually i use Murrays Superior, Black & White and Royal Crown with the Red Lid, but wich of them i use depends a bit on the Weather as the have a different stiffness. I use the Murrys in the Summer just because its very stiff and able to hold my hair even in the sun and during high temperatures. The Black & White and the Royal Crown i prefer in spring, autumn and winter, the arent stiff like the murrays and offer a soft look in cold weather.
There is a variety of good classic poamdes, as im wearing a pomp i tested the pomade that suits me perfect for some years cause there had been so much to test. Dax offers some good pomades too.

I've been using Murrays Superior for a few years now, and really like the Dax High and Tight for a bit of a lighter pomade

Thanks a lot gents! No Walgreens here in Deutschland for now, but I'll keep my eye out. I have a buddy who deals Dax, so I will likely give him a call tomorrow and see about having him send me some of that high and tight or something.
