Safety First!!
I thought that I'd share this little bit of information about safety! If you checkout the picture below you will see that this guy is Not Being Safe!!
I know, I saw it right away too . . . No safety glasses or hearing protection. And I caught something else that is really important: he has no gloves on.I might be up in age but I am still sharp as a tack.
Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdins cave of 'stuff'.

Thanked: 3227Never have seen any bush workers start a chainsaw held with the blade between their legs snug up against the crown jewels. Well, now we know how the lower end of the gene pool get eliminated.

Just a little chlorine for the gene pool.
Unfortunately some saw makers have added enough "features" so that, that guy might not end up in the ER with his buddy trying to keep a straight face while explaining the wound.
PS. yes I know that the safety features are good and save lives. But any safety device that encourages bad safety habits has diminished the devices overall safety.

How about a forced air respirator ? Looking at the photo I think he is holding the saw left handed by the top of the hand guard with the guide bar to the left of his left leg. He is raising the saw up while beginning to pull the starter cord, and will drop his left arm to let the weight of the saw help start it, as he raises his right arm with the starter cord. Just IMHO.
That is how I learned to do it using a similar arborist's chain saw cutting single track bicycle trails. No gloves, helmet, ear protection. Probably wouldn't have used eye protection if I didn't wear bifocals. Back in the 1960s to early '70s, doing structural steel work, no shirt in the summer, no hard hat, never tied off even if we had a monkey line. Then along came OSHA and screwed up everything. .........Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
