    As Above I use both,for me the best way to do do the prep work before the shaping.

    I finished up the saya. Really, not that hard (with a set of sharp chisels):

    Thanks. It fits really well. I wanted to do one out of the same wood as the handle (Thuya burl), but don't have pockets that deep! The wood was just some white pine I picked up at Home Depot, which is actually the correct wood to use because of how soft it is. I was going to sink a magnet in it, but really no need. The friction holds it on nicely.

    I'd love to see your take on one! All lignum with some ivory in there somewhere?
