Thanked: 13247Cowboy Up - A thing called Rodeo
Not sure if there are any Rodeo fans on here, in fact I am not really a "Fan" but I do enjoy going when the opportunity arises..
This is a slice of Americana that if you haven't experienced it, and you get the chance you should go and take it in..
The wife got selected to attend the Lewiston Round Up for some charity work she had done for her job, so we packed us and the dogs into the rig and headed down..
Granted it is an acquired taste and not for everyone the sights, sounds, and even the smells can be over-whelming to some, but it can also be just pure fun..
There is very little "Down Time" during a Rodeo, they don't really call "Time outs" the animals sometimes have a mind of their own, and that is often the most fun of the show..
You also get people like my wife who could be overheard during the Calf Roping and the Steer Wrestling quietly saying "Go Little Calf, Go Little Calf, Go"
As you can see from the abundance of Pink that Breast Cancer was the Charity being honored last night, and Wrangler was out in force with the TETWP clothing, pretty cool actually to see so many of the guys sporting the Pink Wangler shirts..
So any other's here that go to the Rodeo when you can ????

Dang right, Big event in locals across the country. They usually coincide with county fairs and are lots of fun. I even got enamored with bull-riding a while as-young.
Got tossed off about half the time. Figured after a bit it was not for me! I just finally learned that about motocross!
Always a good show at a local rodeo!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.

Thanked: 4828I have to say the clowns have a tough job and I'm not sure how they do it. I'm usually watching the clowns. Who with a shred of sanity taunts the angry bulls.
It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

Thanked: 884"Boys, ain't but two things will get on a bull. Them's flies and fools and neither one of you little Sh%T HEADS got wings!" ~Fuzz Griffith R.I.P.
Fuzzy said that to his son Jimmy Dale aka "Nig" and me one morning after we'd been to the buck outs at the old Kowbell Rodeo in Mansfield, TX back in 68 or 69. Both of us
had gotten mudholes stomped in our young rear ends and then walked dry by the green bulls we tried to ride. Green bulls have never been bucked and they either explode or dink out.
Ours exploded.
Tried saddle bronc and bareback too.
Made a bit of money here and there, but never enough to get a RCA card. Rode open shows and jackpots until a pretty little brahma named "STANLEY" of all things, finished my career at
open show in Douglas, GA in '73. Two broken wrists, broken nose, hole cut all the way through my lower lip and some other bumps, cuts and bruises. That SOB did a J-O-B on my young rear end.
Been on plenty of rank horses since then but never got on another bull.
Too old for that kind of fun now. Takes too long to heal up. I'll still saddle up and ride the pastures at my sister's place, but they don't have any rank mutts. We're all too old for those games anymore.Last edited by Wullie; 09-08-2014 at 02:31 AM.

'Tis why I quit. Started back into cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, and Girls.....Not necessarily in that order!
I saw it happen to a few guys. Guess I was bad enough at it to lean the other way. Not for me!"Don't be stubborn. You are missing out."
I rest my case.
